I kind of wanted to do a surprise for him... but I guess we should ask instead, huh?
A surprise party might end up too much for someone who hasn't really celebrated before and I don't know if he'll hate it or like it either. We might be together but I still haven't figured out how to guess if he'll like something or not. Usually I assume he's like me and will share whatever opinion I have. But then he'll surprise me and end up liking something I hate.
Anyway. I know for sure I'll have to make soba for dinner that day. No matter what we end up doing.
yeah, we don't want to overwhelm him if a big party might be too much. maybe something smaller with a few closer friends? that might be easier, to kinda ease him into it that he's more comfortable having a bigger gathering another time?
but yeah, definitely soba, i know that's his favourite.
No! A dinky bowl wouldn't be enough! I'm supposed to give him the BEST presents because I'm the BEST boyfriend!
[something something katsuki's the best at everything something something--]
I don't even think 30 gifts is enough either! I should bump it up to 50 because he deserves everything on the goddamn planet!!
[Honestly, Katsuki is really stressed out about gift giving. There's Shoto's birthday, yes, but he also has to get him something meaningful for Christmas too. It's a couple's holiday, after all....]
i'm just saying, as long as it's from friends he cares about, i doubt he'll mind so much what we get him. i think you're overthinking this, kacchan.....!
[But. Well. Bakugo has always been competitive. It's not really that surprising if it shows up with something like gifts for a friend. Or, in this case, boyfriend. Probably not helped that this is his first, so he's still figuring out how that works.]
um. how about we both come up with a list together? see what we think he might need or want? what he likes?
I'm not overthinking anything! I just want to be the best partner for him!
[Katsuki knows Shoto would definitely appreciate anything he gave him. He could just give him a bouquet and that'd be enough... but still. His competitiveness and insecurity about being a bad boyfriend has him wanting to do way more than he knows he probably should.]
We can do a list, though. That's not a bad idea.
[Right now he's thinking about buying everything on the list that they make... he'll hopefully calm down and only pick a couple when it gets closer to Shoto's birthday.]
I know he likes flowers a lot. And he's become a real foodie so things like chocolates and other treats would probably make him happy. He also likes rabbits and cats, not that we need to get any more damn animals in the house. But he might appreciate gifts for them or stuffed ones or something. I don't know.
Obviously he also likes teas and coffees. And just about anything traditionally Japanese or related to knights and medieval shit. I guess he became a knight in the place he was stuck in before this one? So that stuff means a lot to him.
That's about all I got right now. Anything you want to add?
any particular flowers that are his favourite? i can grab some from work if you want. along with some sweets or something. maybe we can figure a mixture with some stationary or something with rabbits or cats, and some things for him to use or play with the pets?
i'm still figuring out more about all that stuff. knights?
[This is a start, at least. Some options. He's just trying to help and make sure that poor Todoroki isn't too overwhelmed with all this. Even if he knows that they want to make up for their friend not having the most ideal upbringing with his family situation.]
He likes white lilies and these blue ones that look kind of like trumpets.
["Blue Gentiana" is what they're called... hopefully Izuku will know which ones he's talking about. He's much better at remembering names and things like that than Katsuki is.]
Stationary is a really good idea, actually. He seems the type to like that kind of stuff. And it'd be nice with the flowers, sweets and I'll get some special tea to go with it all.
And yeah. Knights. Before he wound up here Todoroki was in another one of these weird worlds that bring in other people for one reason or another. It had a different theme entirely than this place, and it's also where he met Sensei and why they're so close. He became a knight in this world and Sensei helped him learn how to use a sword and he's still really devoted to being one even now.
[And he's called Katsuki his "princess" once because of his time as a knight but that's.. something Katsuki's keeping to himself...................]
blue ones like trumpets? oh! you mean that blue gentiana? todoroki-san probably knows more than me about flowers still, but i'm trying to learn more working there.
i just figure some practical things he'd get use of seems like the sort of thing he'd appreciate more. but ah, i guess that makes sense then. it's just hard sometimes to know what might be okay to ask about. or to know what to ask, if that makes sense, about stuff from before i got here. let alone before he got here after what he recalls from back home.
[At least Izuku, if he did know, might only bring it up once or twice. In private. Not make it an ongoing thing to tease his best friend about.]
That's the one. Todoroki might know more than you but at least you know enough to get his favourite flowers for him. You're leveling up Deku.
[He probably had no idea what they were called when they started!! He's getting better day by day!]
And I get that. About what you can and can't ask. I never really know either because he's met a few different versions of me in the past... it makes it kind of awkward now that we're dating. I don't know how close he really was with the other Bakugos, and I don't know if it'd hurt to ask about them or even about other stuff from the same time period. So I try to just let him mention this stuff on his own.
I should probably ask him more questions though. There's still a LOT of shit I don't know about him.
you think so? ah. i'm trying. i knew some more common flowers, but there's a lot more i'm still learning yet.
yeah. i guess it's weird even for you, sometimes. that's usually pretty much how i go with it. let you or whoever else mention to me if something might be important that i need to know. but i'm sure he wouldn't mind if you ask. he'd tell you if it isn't something he'd want to talk about.
i'm not sure it can hurt to at least ask. but ah, i haven't even thought of christmas presents that i'd want. i was more thinking about ideas for everyone else.
Deku, I don't know if you've noticed but I ain't exactly the gift giving type! This is my first year really going out and buying gifts for people and actually caring about if they like them or not!
[He usually just gets low effort gifts for his parents....]
i dunno. i've only been here a few months, there's bound to be some things i still might need beyond the obvious essentials you guys already took care of when i first moved in.
i dunno. clothes, a book, or some new weights or something. it isn't that hard?
[...It isn't like Izuku has had a lot of friends to get presents for in the past, to be fair, but. Still. It's not that difficult? Is it?]
[Katsuki huffs at his phone, annoyed at Izuku's first comment but not wanting to touch it since... well... it's true and also kind of Katsuki's fault that he didn't have friends to give gifts to... maybe that's one of the reasons why he wants to make sure he gets something really good for Izuku? His never ending quest to make years up to the other boy, somehow.
He'll figure something out for Izuku, he's sure. The other boy isn't too helpful with his suggestions so it's up to Katsuki to figure out the perfect thing to give to him... he does, however, appreciate his offer to help with others and their presents and he gladly takes him up on it.]
Fine. It'd be easier and more efficient with the two of us working together.
Let's meet at home and there we can make our list and plot our attack.
[Chances are that somewhere along the way of finding presents for others, Izuku might come across something and make a comment about it being useful or something he might need at some point, unintentionally. But it isn't wrong that he doesn't have the most practice at this either. They could fumble their way through this together. Somehow.
He nods at the suggestion to meet back home, before.....wait?]
We're going to attack everyone by giving them the best damn presents on the planet! Better than any of their other lame gifts from their other lame friends! Gifts so good that it'll shock them to their core when they see my name on the tag!
They won't know what hit them!
[Of course Katsuki's just talking out his ass to try and boost his own ego a bit... give himself confidence that he definitely absolutely 100% will give good gifts and wont end up chickening out and buying everyone those stupid 20 dollar pre-wrapped gifts that every store sells around this time of year--
There's going to be a lot of fumbling, with these two dummies buying things together.......]
i think you're taking this a little seriously, kacchan. but at least you're enthusiastic, i guess. i'll meet you at home and we'll go from there.
[Why is his friend like this?? So much. Still, he figures he can at least try help with the rest of the presents. Maybe talk Bakugo down from some more out there choices.....]
[Katsuki grins to himself, amused that Izuku's already getting tired of his bullshit and they haven't even started yet.
He's also, admittedly, already home. Having been too lazy to leave the place to meet Izuku, and instead just making the other come to him... poor Deku has such an annoying best friend--]
