Oh! Yeah. Um, I remember Evangeline-san? She mentioned using mirrors from there to get to someone else's place easily. She suggested I have a look when I was first here and was still at the apartment, so I could come and visit you guys more easily.
[He's used to that look. It doesn't always mean anything good. But he is kind of relieved about it. If it means it gives Bakugo something to work towards. A goal for dealing with his automail. He listens as the other explains, blinking when he mentions rockets.]
E-eh? Rockets.....?! Actually, that could work. I mean, maybe a little differently from your usual explosions, but enough to propel you to maneuver around.......
[....Yup. He's gone into nerd mode, considering the potential ideas and how it might work.]
[Katsuki for once won't yell at Izuku for mumbling, instead feeling excited that the other boy agrees that it sounds like it could work. If there was any flaw in his idea, he knew his trusty best friend could help him figure out the kinks.]
Exactly! That's the part of fighting I've been missin' the most. The flying. It's way more integral to my style than I ever realized.
[He can't do shit without the ability to fly. Sure, he can run extra fast now that he's a vampire and move around that way but it's different. The speed and height that his rockets give him are both so much more, and he can't perform his favourite move very well with only one engine to fly with.]
I can do with half the explosions. I've got my Winter stuff now, plus my gauntlets and my arm is hooked up with a gauntlet-like mechanic of it's own and a gun. I've got plenty of power to hit people with-- I just want my mobility back.
[Imagine Howitzer Impact with the addition of his Winter powers.... terrifying.]
Yeah. Rockets could help with that, I think. You'd just need to make sure you'd have enough fuel for it? Since this would be different from your Quirk with your sweat.....
[Would it need something like an engine? Probably. Izuku is no support expert like those in school who help make heroes their gear, but he has studied Quirks and the like. Has probably included different notes about their owner's gear and possible suggestions for improvements, but he's not necessarily that confident about his knowledge or expertise without checking with someone else.]
I'd suggest maybe some sort of boosters with your boots, maybe? Or perhaps the arm might be enough....
[Izuku should probably be more nervous about the chances of this absolutely backfiring when Bakugo spars with him and he gets hit with this, but. He's focusing on trying to help. On ideas, potential solutions.]
You're thinkin' about Quirks too much, Deku. This is magic. I don't need to think about fuel and all that junk.
[Katsuki points that out (literally, by pointing a finger at his friend while he talks), knowing that though Izuku isn't wrong he doesn't have to think so hard about it at the same time.]
I think I should be able to use the rockets without worrying if I'll need to care about gasoline or whatever. Like how Summer users can make flame just come outta their hands?
Though... now that you've mentioned using my feet to fly, that ain't a half bad idea.
[Maybe the magic can be general enough where he can just.. shoot rockets out from wherever he wants? He has no idea how it works, yet. But he's eager to find out.]
I'll have to be careful. I can get used to using a rocket with my hand again, but my feet? The balance is gonna be all off.
Aa, right. Sorry. I guess it's just habit. I've been trying to read more about the abilities here, trying to practice mine, but I'm not sure I'm making huge progress yet.
[He's been here a little over a month. Izuku probably shouldn't expect all that much in the way of progress yet, when he's been settling in and supporting Bakugo where necessary and all. Still, he nods as he thinks, a hand raising to his chin as he considers.]
Yeah. That'd definitely be something you'd have to practice. You're more used to using your hands, your arms. I dunno, it's just an idea. Maybe you could have the boosters as a backup or something? Or if you really needed to get somewhere high, or quickly?
[Katsuki hums a little, thoughtful as he thinks about Izuku's suggestion. Thankful that this conversation was doing a good job at distracting him from the nerve pain.]
...imagine how fast I'd be if I was using all four limbs to fly. That'd be terrifying to have me comin' at you like that.
[A big, evil grin is on his face again as he imagines it himself. Just how fast would four rockets be? He'd be a shooting star, at that point. A meteor ready to take out a chunk from the Earth.]
And it's fine that you got it mixed up, you're still getting adjusted. I kept callin' the powers "Quirks" for the first few months I arrived, so I get still thinking about how stuff works biologically. It's hard as hell to get used to the fact that powers here just... work.
Without any rhyme or reason behind 'em.
[He's been slow at learning his own season powers, honestly. Behind the others who arrived around the same time as him, because it's a little much to wrap your head around when you're so used to super powers being biological and with limits.]
You'd probably be able to give me a decent race with that against my speed.
[Izuku agrees, chuckling as he takes a sip of his drink. He doesn't want it to get too cold because he forgets about it, distracted as he is by their conversation. At least, it seems to be helping keep Bakugo's mind off the automail, the pain of it. If it's helping, Izuku doesn't mind chatting for a while.]
Yeah. It's hard to really think of it like....magic? I guess? But I have to remind myself this isn't home, and the abilities, the magic here, it isn't like Quirks.
[There's a sparkle that suddenly appears in Katsuki's eyes when Izuku says he'll give him a good race, always enjoying the idea of a challenge and being better than his rival. He just grins wider as a response to that, and leans his chin on his left hand as he continues talking.]
Yeah, it's weird as hell here. I'm jealous that no one else has to worry about things like needing to be hot enough to sweat out the stuff you fight with, but not too hot that you overheat and get sick. It ain't that easy to balance and figure out how to use your body the best way that you can without wrecking yourself, and no one else has to deal with that shit but us and the people from our world.
[There's been many, many times where Katsuki was too hot from his Hero Costume and had to do something with a headache or nausea. Of course, it's something he's just gotten accustomed to over time and has learned to prepare for but when he was younger it was so bad. Lots of moments where he had to take a break from training so he could cool off, otherwise he'd get heat stroke.
Summer users? They don't have to worry about overheating at all. They can use their firepower whenever they felt like, in any weather, and any condition.]
Everyone else-- even the people who had super powers before they got here think that Quirks and how they work are weird. They think the way we "worship" Heroes is weird. I've argued about fan merch with someone already, and they think I'm a freak for wanting my face on shirts and stuff.
[It's definitely a culture shock, and that big grin is gone by the time he finishes complaining about it.]
Yeah. I know you and a lot of our class have had issues and things to figure out how to work with in using and controlling Quirks. That's usually where support gear comes in to help too, but. Even with that....
[Izuku is glad to see that look again. Hoping to keep that ignited in his friend to give him something to look forward to. To keep him going even if this was going to be rough, and he knows the other will be restless. He hopes that if he can give Bakugo little things to look forward to, that will help keep him going when it gets rough.]
Really? Oh. I guess it's just normal for us since we grew up with merch and stuff. Everyone loved All Might.
[Katsuki nods. Even with the help of support gear, you've got to pay close attention to your body and it's needs. He feels like if Quirks worked more like magic, people would be... way stronger. Explosions without the need of nitroglycerin to make it work? Just.. being able to blow stuff up without any worry? That'd be crazy, honestly. He'd be even more unstoppable than he already is, somehow.]
Our world is one of the weirder ones out there, apparently. I've had so many people question how our society works and make dumb assumptions about it or shit all over Heroism.
[It's so silly to him that people can't grasp the concept of Heroism, and that it's usually just comic books and movies where people go out of their way to save lives like that.]
Someone even called me a "child soldier" once. Really pissed me off.
[It's not... entirely wrong...... but he still doesn't like the idea that they shouldn't be fighting so young or that it's wrong wanting to grow up to do something so dangerous.]
I guess it's different, elsewhere. They might not have professional heroes and Quirks like we do, so it might seem strange to them if they haven't grown up with it like we have. But....child soldier?
[Izuku hadn't necessarily considered that. They were still minors. Still, students studying to be professionals, whether through hero, support, or business courses and the like. But they were all helping out and doing what they could to minimize the potential damage from Shigaraki. From All For One. Izuku especially. He supposes it's....technically accurate? But it's just been kind of inevitable, given that they had grown up looking up to heroes like All Might and wanting to help people like he did in his prime. Like he still continued to do, even if just as their teacher and mentor.]
I guess that's not....wrong? But I hadn't really thought of it like that until now. I'm just doing what I can. To help. To stop Shigaraki, stop All For One.
It's a stupid comparison. If the adults had it handled on their own, we wouldn't need to get involved this early on in the first place. It ain't like they planned for kids to be fighting in a damn war.
[Katsuki adds that on, as well. Because even if it is quite similar, the difference between these two and actual child soldiers is that they're not supposed to be fighting the Really Bad Guys until after they graduate. After they've finished school, and learning every little thing to prepare them for their new dangerous lives.
And after he says that, he shifts to hold the cold pack on another part of his wound, wincing at how just barely touching it like this burned. Maybe if they hadn't gotten so involved with this "war" back home he wouldn't be so injured but... Katsuki doesn't regret it, and he can't agree with the people who think it's wrong for him to have been involved. That they're "child soldiers" and deserve pity.]
Ugh... fuck. I fucking hate how much this hurts.
[He's still going to complain about it though, even if he doesn't regret being in this situation.]
Yeah, exactly. They wouldn't have let us get involved if they didn't need our help.
[Izuku agrees. He can understand why others might find it harder to understand. That they might be against the idea of kids, even ones their age, getting involved. But at the same time, he knows he was specifically a target because of his situation. Him having been given One For All. It's complicated. But he supposes any situation where kids their age were fighting would be. He sighs, glancing down as he sips at his drink before Bakugo swears, complaining again.]
Aa, I'm not sure if it's quite time for you to have more painkillers yet. But is there anything else I can get you?
A bite? Oh, ah, yeah. Sure. I don't mind. If it might help. Go ahead.
[He's unsure where the other might prefer at the moment, so he pulls his shirt down a little more and also rolls up one of his sleeves. So that way, Bakugo will have access to his arm or his neck. Whichever he wanted to go with. After the surgery, Izuku probably should have anticipated he'd be tired and need more blood. Maybe he should have added more to the coffee? But that still probably isn't quite the same as feeding directly like this. He shifts to sit closer, next to Bakugo to support him with this. He never minds. It isn't like he doesn't already have plenty of scars and bruises anyway. What was one more? Especially if it was for his friend.]
[Izuku is too nice of a friend... sometimes, Katsuki feels guilty for asking things from him because he knows his answer will always be yes. But he also knows that he genuinely doesn't mind doing things like this, and it probably feels good being able to help in the first place knowing Izuku.
So Katsuki doesn't feel as bad this time as he looks his friend over to pick the best spot to bite. In fact, his stomach growls a little now that he's about to eat. And he decides to go with the arm, which is already covered in so many scars to begin with. He grabs Izuku's wrist and lifts his arm up, letting out an "itadakimasu" before chomping down and feeding.
He tries not to take too much, but... he's hungry. So Izuku might be a little light headed by the time Katsuki finishes eating.]
[He's just glad if he can help. He doesn't mind if he gets any marks or bruises. Not if it is to help Bakugo. He's already got so many, it isn't like he cares about more at this point. So it's fine. He extends his arm and lets Bakugo feed as much as he needs. He never thinks twice about helping others, especially his friends. It's how he has always been. Always putting others first. This is no different. Sure, others might point out to him that he won't be in any condition to help support Bakugo if he lets the other take too much. He barely winces as the fangs dig in. It barely registers, given his pain tolerance after what he had dealt with before in terms of injuries.
Which is sort of what happens here. He doesn't necessarily realize it right away, not in the moment, probably because he's way too used to being hurt or impaired in some way or other over the year or so that he has been with the hero course.]
Hm. That enough? I know the surgery must have tired you.
[Once Katsuki feels like he's had his fill, he pulls his fangs out of his friend's arm and licks some of the blood away from the wounds. Unfortunately, he's not the kind of vampire than can heal wounds himself but it doesn't matter that much. He figures Izuku will get himself a few bandaids and call it good, so he lets go of the other boy's arm so he can do just that. And he nods at his question, as well.]
Yeah, it really did. But your blood is energizing me, a little.
[It's always better fresh, and Izuku's blood felt particularly strong... maybe it was just placebo, and there really wasn't a difference between everyone's blood. But Katsuki feels like everything about the green haired boy was just filled with so much determination and willpower, that no doubt it runs through his blood too.
...nah. It's definitely placebo. Placebo and bias--]
Could still use a nap, probably. But I don't know how the hell I'm gonna sleep with this hunk of metal attached to me.
I’m glad if it helps. I’m guessing it’s still good to have the supply from the fridge but the fresher the better. If you want to rest, you can try. I know it might not be easy, but I can try help.
[Izuku doesn’t mind staying with him, helping replace the cold pack or something as Bakugo needs. At least, until or unless he himself finally falls asleep at the others bedside. He isn’t too worried about finding a plaster right away, but will probably get one once he’s finished his drink. He might be a little more pale and a little less focused from letting Bakugo feed, but he’s trying to adjust to it more and keep sipping his drink.]
[Katsuki is thoughtful for a moment, considering the best way for him to get some rest. He knows it's a good idea to sleep when his body needs to recover like this, so it's not like he's actively trying to fight sleep... but it might be awkward or hurt if he lays down.]
It might be better if I slept sitting up, so I don't chance rolling onto my arm.
[It's embarrassing as hell, what he's about to ask Izuku to do. But the other boy wants to help, so..]
...could you, I dunno... sit with me? So I don't fall over or something stupid?
[Maybe he can sleep against a sitting Izuku, and it'll keep him upright...]
Maybe on the couch? That might be more comfortable than these chairs to try to sleep on. Unless you want to try propping yourself up with some pillows on your bed?
[Izuku tries to figure out options, not immediately considering adding himself to this before the other asks him. Of course, it would make sense if Bakugo might want to try to stay off the arm when asleep, at least initially. He blinks, more out of slight surprise in not having considered it, but he isn't against the idea. If it might help. Bakugo wouldn't ask if he didn't need the support. So he nods.]
[Katsuki sees how Izuku looks a little surprised at his suggestion, and he scowls hard in response to it. But he won't take it back, since Izuku's willing to give it a try... even though he feels embarrassed and wants to--]
We'll go to my room. I ain't letting Sensei or Todoroki walk in on us sleeping on the couch.
[Even with all this time of learning to be more open and nice, he still doesn't like the idea of other people seeing him be soft. Even his own boyfriend.... he's such a weirdo.]
Ah, right.....yeah, okay then. The bed is probably more comfortable anyway. Did you want me to grab more pillows?
[He doesn't mind helping. If this is what the other needs. Izuku just hadn't considered how the other might sleep and how to stop him from tossing and turning and how that might impact the new prosthetic. Still, he agrees easily enough, nodding at the idea and finishing his tea to take the mug to the sink in the kitchen to rinse it out.
They hadn't been close during the usual years that friends might have sleepovers or the like. It's almost like this place gives them another chance with that. Izuku just wishes it wouldn't involve the other being sick or in pain like this, though.]
[Katsuki nods. And as he watches Izuku rinse his mug out, he suddenly feels.. really grateful that his best friend was here with him. This place really was like a second chance, and even if the circumstances haven't been the best it's still a little fun living with the other boy and having these "sleepovers". It reminds him a lot of when they were really young, and used to hang around each other's homes more often. They never really had sleepovers, no. But just being in the same home as the other boy felt nostalgic all the same.
And after a quiet moment, still sitting at the kitchen table, Katsuki suddenly says something.]
...Deku.
[It's just the other boy's name, but he seems to have something else to add on to that. He's just waiting for the other boy to respond, first.]
[Izuku puts the mug in the dishwasher, head tilting slightly as he glances up at hearing his name. As if waiting for the other to continue. Or maybe he had just been checking that Izuku was listening first. Before saying or asking something else. He figures he could get the couple of pillows from his bed, at least. To help prop Bakugo up in bed. That might help. He's expecting the other to tell him not to say anything to anyone else about this. Or something along those lines. But he can't be sure if that's it or if the other wants to say or ask something entirely different.]
